TWICE’s Jihyo breaks silence on JYP Entertainment contract renewal rumors, shares emotional message
Jihyo posted a long message on July 28 to TWICE’s official fan platform Bubble, addressing fans about the group’s contract renewal talks with JYP Entertainment.
She wrote directly to the fandom ONCE, explaining how heavy her heart has felt amid the ongoing discussions.
Jihyo wrote:
“I could be having casual conversations with ONCE about everyday things, but right now it’s difficult because my heart feels so heavy.”
“I was worried and very cautious before coming to Bubble, but I don’t want ONCE to have to wait too long. I’ll do my best to resolve everything properly and share good news with you as soon as I can.“
“As the person responsible for my own life, I’ll think everything through wisely and make the best choice. Just like you always have, I hope you’ll continue to support me and trust me.“
“I sincerely love and cherish TWICE as a team, and I believe ONCE will understand me because of that alone.“
“I’m sorry it’s been so long since I came to talk to you. I’ll come back when we can casually chat and joke around again. Sleep well, eat well, get plenty of rest, and let’s all get through this together. Thank you, always.“
The message drew quick attention as TWICE’s contract renewal negotiations have been a major topic among fans.
Earlier this month, reports said Jeongyeon, Tzuyu, Chaeyoung, and Jihyo were considering leaving JYP Entertainment and might move to new agencies. One report specifically stated that Jihyo had decided to part ways with the agency after more than two decades and was likely preparing to set up a one-person agency. That same report added that, “regardless of her individual contract, she is expected to continue participating in TWICE’s group activities under JYP.”
On July 14, JYP Entertainment responded to the swirling rumors, saying:
“TWICE is currently in the contract renewal discussion period. We will provide an update once the matter has been finalized.“
Jihyo debuted as TWICE’s leader in 2015 after roughly 10 years as a trainee with JYP Entertainment. Including her trainee period, she has been with the company for about 21 years, and JYP previously marked her 20th anniversary at the agency with commemorative content released last year.
