Jennie tops ‘M Countdown’ with “Less than a Lover” without broadcast appearance
BLACKPINK’s Jennie claimed first place on Mnet’s ‘M Countdown’ on July 30 with her solo single “Less than a Lover” despite not appearing on the broadcast.
“Less than a Lover” is described as an alternative pop track built around lo-fi guitar and vintage electric keyboard tones. Jennie took part in writing and composing the song. The lyrics explore the feelings of a relationship that sits between friendship and romance.
On July 30 the single hit number one on the Bugs real-time chart and topped Apple Music’s “Today’s TOP 100: Korea” chart. The song also reached the top of YouTube’s trending videos in South Korea that day.
Outside Korea, “Less than a Lover” placed high on Apple Music’s top song charts in Cambodia, Vietnam, and Laos. On Spotify’s daily charts it ranked prominently in South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, and other regions.
The track also reached number one on iTunes’ top song charts in 27 countries, including Vietnam, Chile, Indonesia, and Peru, marking the highest number of iTunes country chart-toppers this year for a solo K-pop song.
The music video rose to first on YouTube Music Video Trending Worldwide and led video trending charts in both South Korea and the United States.
