Well-Known Actor Formerly Courted by JYP Entertainment Expresses Relief at Not Becoming an Idol
Choo Young Woo reveals he almost became a K-Pop idol under JYP Entertainment — but says no thanks.
The controversy began after his recent stage performance with idol Choi Yena at the Asia Artist Awards 2025 got fans talking. Turns out, before rising as one of Korea’s hottest actors, Choo Young Woo had a casting offer from JYP Entertainment.
But he passed.
He told media, seeing idols rehearse and perform live changed his view completely.
“Honestly… I’m really glad I didn’t do it. I mean, I really respect singers. You don’t realize how much work goes on behind the scenes until you see it up close. What you see on stage is only a small part of it.”

He added that acting is challenging, but performing on stage is another level.
“Acting is something a lot of people can try. But performing on stage? That’s not something just anyone can do.”

For now, he’s sticking to acting but keeps a funny possibility open about K-Pop.
“If I get the chance… Maybe in my next life.”

No official word if Choo Young Woo will make any moves towards the idol stage anytime soon. For now, fans will have to wait and see.
