Well-Known Actor and Partner Given Prison Sentences in Military Draft Evasion Case

Wang Ta Lu is facing serious legal trouble over draft dodging and illegal data access.
The controversy began on February 18, 2025, when the 33-year-old Taiwanese actor, also known as Darren Wang, was arrested at home on suspicion of dodging military service.
He allegedly paid NT$1 million (around $30,525 USD) and faked a heart condition with forged documents to get exempted from conscription. He was released on bail the same day.

In Taiwan, men must serve one year in the military before turning 36. Draft evasion since January 2024 can bring up to five years in prison.
Soon after, on April 22, Darren Wang was sentenced to six months in prison for illegally accessing personal data.
After Wang transferred funds to Chen, who ran the draft-dodging ring but was detained on fraud charges, Chen didn’t respond. Wang’s co-defendant then approached police to get Chen’s info, which they passed on to Wang.

Wang’s girlfriend, Chueh Mu Hsuan, also got six months prison time for similar charges.
“These sentences can be commuted into fines.”
Both face ongoing investigations, and Wang may face further charges. The situation is still developing.
