Highlight’s Son Dongwoon to play Kim Ok Gyun in Gon Tomorrow musical
Highlight‘s Son Dongwoon will play the historical revolutionary Kim Ok Gyun in the 10th-anniversary production of the musical ‘Gon Tomorrow’. Performances begin on September 15.
The show will run at the Hongik Daehangno Art Center Grand Theater in Jongno-gu, Seoul. The historical drama is inspired by the final moments of Kim Ok Gyun, his asylum in Japan after the Gapsin Coup, and the assassination plot that surrounded him. The production premiered in 2016 and had revivals in 2021 and 2023, and has consistently received acclaim for its narrative and popular appeal.
For the 10th-anniversary run, the musical will deepen its established storyline and emotional resonance while introducing fresh interpretations. These new layers aim to vividly portray the characters’ relationships and choices. Son Dongwoon is set to portray Kim Ok Gyun‘s convictions and internal conflicts, bringing the role to life with his “nuanced emotional range and clear vocal delivery.”
Son Dongwoon has performed in musical theater since 2012. His stage credits include ‘Catch Me If You Can’, ‘The Great Catsby RE:BOOT’, ‘Sandglass’, and ‘Jeon Woo Chi’. Earlier this year, he earned praise for his portrayal of Jin Ki Han in ‘Along With the Gods_The Underworld’.
The 10th-anniversary run of ‘Gon Tomorrow’ featuring Son Dongwoon will run from September 15 to November 29. Outside the musical, he held solo concerts ‘Ever+’ in Seoul last December and Tokyo this February. He also appears on JTBC‘s new variety show ‘Master and Idol: Jjangdol’, which premieres on June 26.
Highlight will also appear at several festivals this year. Their schedule includes the ‘K-WAVE INFINITY K-pop Concert’ in Kaohsiung on August 8, the ‘2026 CassCool Festival’ in Gwacheon on August 22, and the ‘Sustainable Wave Festival’ in Incheon on August 30.
